Withings BodyScan 2 is one of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026: more than 60 biomarkers, a six lead ECG and body composition across six body zones.
In short
- TIME lists the Withings BodyScan 2 among the Best Inventions of 2026, the third Withings device on the list after Body Scan (2022) and BeamO (2024).
- The Daily Scan captures weight, body composition, visceral fat, heart rate and vascular age every morning in seconds.
- The Longevity Scan, taken with both arms raised on the retractable handle, adds a six lead ECG, blood oxygen and segmental body composition across six body zones.
A scale on the list of the year’s best inventions
TIME has named the BodyScan 2 from Withings one of the Best Inventions of 2026. Withings calls the device the world’s first at-home longevity station, and the ambition really does go beyond an ordinary bathroom scale: the daily weigh in turns into a full check of heart and metabolic health, revealing whether daily habits are likely to add healthy years or cost them.
The company announced the honor on October 15, 2026, in Boston. It is the third time a Withings product has made the list, after Body Scan in 2022 and the BeamO checkup device in 2024. Earlier, the BodyScan 2 had already been named a CES 2026 Innovation Award Honoree.

From the bathroom to prevention
Withings was founded in 2008 and introduced the first smart scale just one year later. The idea behind it still shapes the new model: the body gives off signals well before anything feels wrong, and noticing them at home should be easy. According to the company, the BodyScan 2 draws on more than 50 patents and fifteen years of medical engineering.
“The future of health starts long before the doctor’s office, at home, every morning, while there is still time to change the story.”
Eric Carreel, Chairman and Co-founder of Withings
Two scans in one device
All in all, the BodyScan 2 tracks more than 60 biomarkers and slots into a routine many people already have. The Daily Scan takes only seconds each morning and records weight, body composition, visceral fat, heart rate and vascular age.
The Longevity Scan goes deeper. The handle is pulled out and both arms are raised. Using bioimpedance spectroscopy at 13 frequencies, the scale then measures body composition separately for six body zones. It adds a six lead ECG with AFib detection, blood oxygen (SpO2) and blood pressure hints that Withings calls Blood Pressure Insight Notifications. The results show up on a color screen in the handle and are synced with the Withings App, so that a running record of how the body changes builds up over time.

The trend matters more than the single number
When the question is how many healthy years lie ahead, a single reading says less than the way it develops. A measurement that happens every morning without extra effort reveals changes that an annual checkup can miss. That is the idea behind the concept: catch early signals before they become urgent and share the results with a doctor. Withings says it has more than 15 million users worldwide and works with academic and clinical research institutions to ground its measurements in science.
Price and availability
In the US, the BodyScan 2 sells for USD 599.95 and is eligible for FSA and HSA health accounts. Every purchase includes a free one month trial of Withings+, which unlocks additional scores such as Heart Age. As with any home measuring device, the scale puts numbers in context and flags changes, but it does not replace a medical examination.
